Before we get to the details, watch There's Something About Mary, a comedy about obsessive love. I like to re-name it There's Something About Money, because people fall in love with their investments. They buy because the stock is sexy or hot and then they never sell or they sell too early, all emotional decisions, all bad decisions. The key to investing is controlling your emotions and making logical decisions. Easy to say, hard to do. Read an article about my investment philosophy in The Globe And Mail. Making money through investing is a long-term activity that requires good ideas and logical execution. There is no room for emotion and dreams of quick riches. The MLMG will educate you about good ideas (diversification) and logical execution (investment strategies) based on Risk and Reward. But first, you need to understand about marching dollars... The most powerful concept to understand about money is the Theory of the Marching Dollars. If you imagine your money as an army of little soldiers marching into battle, always moving, always growing, always advancing, moving forward towards your goals; then you have grasped the fundamental concept of investing. Every waking moment of every day, you have to imagine your little army of Marching Dollars on the move. While you sleep, when you're working, during your vacations, your money should be marching forward. Remember, you are the General of this army and you give the orders. If you don't, the Marching Dollars will camp out and goof off, waiting for instructions. Give the orders, keep them marching! Nobody cares about your money more that you do! So why trust your money to somebody else? Educate yourself about investing and make your own decisions. Take control and put the Theory of the Marching Dollars to work. |
